Pulling it's weight: Can an EV tow a trailer?

It's a question we're often asked around towing and whether an EV can handle the test, so our friends at the Open Road took the Polestar 2 for a spin and hitched a box trailer with a typical load you might pick up for a weekend's toil in the garden. 

The result definitely proved towing is possible, but as you'd expect the overall driving range decreased when towing, which is not so dissimilar from reduced fuel consumption from an ICE vehicle when towing. 

One question I wanted to ask, was whether any EV owners have used their vehicle for towing, and whether towing was even a requirement when selecting a vehicle? 

I must admit that although the family car does have a tow bar, the most use it get's is from the trusty mounted bike racks.
